Hims Hair Loss Review 2026: Prices, Products and Terms

Every hair-loss item on hims.com carries a monthly “Starting at” price on its own page. Prices below were read on September 18, 2026, and there is no separate consultation fee.

Hims sells hair loss in three tiers, and the tier decides the regulatory status.

Approved by the FDA

Two options are. The oral finasteride 1mg tablet, which Hims labels “FDA-approved” and calls the “Generic for Propecia®,” is “Starting at $22 per month.” It is a men’s treatment: the product page says “Finasteride is a 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor used to treat hair loss,” and the app is listed as “Hims: Telehealth for Men.” Women should not be looking at this tablet; see our Hers hair loss review.

The second is over-the-counter topical minoxidil. Hims calls the minoxidil in its non-prescription kit the “FDA-approved over-the-counter version of topical Minoxidil,” and the FDA’s DailyMed record for the Hims-labeled 5% solution shows it under ANDA075598, an approved generic application. The label is narrow: for regrowing hair “on the top of the scalp,” “not intended for frontal baldness or receding hairline.” Foam starts at $19, the serum at $15.

Compounded preparations

The rest of the prescription menu, branded “Hair Hybrids,” is compounded: the Rx spray, the Rx serum, a three-in-one chew of finasteride, minoxidil and vitamins, and a minoxidil-only chew. Compounded drugs are not approved by the FDA. The agency does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed. Hims says so itself: “FDA does not approve nor verify the safety, effectiveness, or quality of compounded drugs.”

The spray is “0.3% finasteride, 6% minoxidil.” Hims is explicit about the minoxidil in the chews: “Minoxidil is a blood pressure medication used off-label orally at low doses to treat hair loss” — an off-label use of an approved drug, made to order.

Cosmetics and supplements

The Non-Prescription Hair Loss Kit pairs 2oz of minoxidil with “Thick Fix Shampoo” and biotin gummies at $37 a month; the shampoo claims no drug approval. The efficacy language on the site is the company’s, not ours — Hims says users can “Regrow hair in as few as 3-6 months” — and we make no representation about whether these products work, or are safe, for you.

Hims & Hers is the retailer and pharmacy operator; prescribing happens inside state professional corporations. The Notice of Privacy Practices names twelve, beginning “You Health of Alaska, P.C., You Health of California P.C., Bailey Health of Delaware, P.A.” and running through nine more states, from Hawaii to Texas. No individual clinician or medical director is named.

The pharmacies are the company’s own. Hims & Hers says it runs “503A compounding pharmacies located in Ohio and Arizona” staffed by “a team of more than 70 pharmacists and nearly 150 pharmacy technicians.” Those sites make the compounded hair products. When a preparation is made to order the pharmacy is effectively the manufacturer, so an in-house one matters. Hims’ editorial standards page adds that its content “does not constitute medical advice” — the same limit applies here.

The path is short: “you will need to fill out an online intake form, which will provide your healthcare provider with information about your symptoms and medical history,” after which a provider decides on treatment.

How the consultation runs depends on where you live: it “may be conducted asynchronously,” and “In some states, a video visit with a healthcare provider is required.” Hims publishes no state list; the terms reach states “in which we offer the Service,” so your state is confirmed at checkout. You must be 18 or over.

Prescription plans ship free “if prescribed,” in “low-key packaging,” with “Unlimited access to provider for questions and follow-ups.” Review time, shipping time and over-the-counter shipping cost are not published.

Everything here is a subscription. The terms say “your payment device will be automatically charged at regular intervals” until you cancel, and that a “Medication Plan will automatically renew until you cancel or your provider cancels or changes your prescription.”

The deadline is 48 hours, stated two ways. A subscription “will automatically renew for another subscription period unless you cancel at least two (2) days before the applicable renewal processing date”; support puts it as “at least 48 hours before your next order date.”

Cancelling is self-serve: “in-app or through your online account under ‘My Subscriptions'” or by phone. One caveat: it “does not cancel an order that is already processing or has shipped.”

Refunds are narrow. The terms state: “We do not offer refunds for partially used subscription periods, although we may provide refunds on a case-by-case basis.” A refund is not guaranteed once the pharmacy has processed an order, so cancel before the renewal date, not after the shipment. Disputes must be “ARBITRATED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS.”

Read on September 18, 2026:

• Trustpilot: 2.9 out of 5, labeled “Average,” from 9,314 reviews; 38% five-star, 29% one-star.
• BBB (Hims & Hers Inc.): accredited since 2/22/2018, but rated “NR (Not Rated)” because BBB “does not have sufficient information to issue a rating.”
• BBB complaints: 1,331 closed in 12 months; 4,456 in three years.
• App ratings: “Hims: Telehealth for Men” is rated 4.8 from about 95,000 ratings on the Apple App Store, and 4.5 from “18.6K reviews” on Google Play.

The signals point different ways: the apps rate well, the review site does not, and all cover the whole business, not just hair loss. BBB’s complaint categories (Product Issues 1,867; Delivery 472; Billing 300, and others) do not add up to either total, and BBB does not say which window they cover, so both figures stand as printed.

One regulatory matter: on July 29, 2026 the Federal Trade Commission, joined by Utah and by California through the Los Angeles County Counsel, filed a lawsuit against Hims & Hers over its privacy and subscription-billing practices; the case is pending, and the company said publicly that day that it is “confident in our position and will vigorously defend ourselves against these baseless claims.”

Hims & Hers Health, Inc. was “Founded in 2017” and trades on the New York Stock Exchange as HIMS. Its quarter ended June 30, 2026, released August 10, reports that “Subscribers grew to nearly 2.9 million, up 19% year-over-year in Q2 2026” on “Revenue of approximately $753 million, up 38% year-over-year,” with full-year guidance of “$3.1-$3.3 billion in revenue” and a quarterly net loss of $86.3 million.

Scale is fair to weigh when you buy a made-to-order preparation: it tells you who stands behind the pharmacy. One inconsistency, though — the marketing page still says “more than 2.4 million subscribers as of June 30, 2025,” older and lower than the earnings figure. The two sources differ; we print both, and the earnings release is the newer, SEC-filed one.

• You want a product the FDA has approved. Two qualify: the finasteride tablet for men, from $22, and topical minoxidil, from $15.
• You want one product, not three. The spray and chews combine actives, but are made to order and not approved by the FDA.
