What Online Hair Loss Treatment Costs in 2026

These are the brands’ own figures, read on September 18, 2026.

Hims

Every hair product is quoted as “Starting at $X per month”.

• $15: minoxidil serum, over the counter; the Dandruff Detox Shampoo too.
• $19: minoxidil foam, also over the counter.
• $22: oral finasteride 1 mg, which Hims labels FDA-approved and calls the “Generic for Propecia®”.
• $35: each prescription “Hair Hybrid” — the spray, the serum, the three-in-one chew, the minoxidil-only chew.
• $37: the non-prescription kit of minoxidil, shampoo and biotin gummies, listed as “Subscribe at $37/mo”.
• $39: the spray with ketoconazole and biotin.
• $60: the Hair Power Pack, a prescription bundle.

Hims says: “Hair Hybrids are compounded products. FDA does not approve nor verify the safety, effectiveness, or quality of compounded drugs.”

Hers

Hers quotes “Starting at $X*/mo”; the asterisk’s footnote was not in the page text we read, so treat these as floors.

• $12.67: topical minoxidil, both the 2% solution and the 5% foam, over the counter.
• $13.50: biotin gummies, a dietary supplement.
• $25 and $32: the Thickening and Full Volume shampoo-and-conditioner sets.
• $29: oral minoxidil, a prescription; the same figure is on its own product page.
• $35: each prescription combination — the biotin-and-minoxidil gummy, the vitamins-plus-minoxidil plan, the biotin-and-minoxidil chew, the two Hair Blends serums.

Three Hers products carry a different number on their own page; both sets are in the arithmetic below. The prescription pages also carry “Compounded drug products are not approved or evaluated for safety, effectiveness, or quality by the FDA.” and “Rx required.”

Ro

Ro gives one figure per product at three plan lengths: quarterly, six-month, twelve-month.

• Topical minoxidil: $16, $14, $13 a month.
• Oral finasteride: $20, $18, $16. Ro adds that “Finasteride is for male pattern hair loss in men only”.
• Oral minoxidil: $30, $27, $24.
• Ro Mane Spray: $50 quarterly, $43 on six months, with no twelve-month figure on the page we read. Ro labels it “Compounded med. Not FDA-approved.” and lists finasteride, minoxidil and tretinoin in it.

Compounded medicines do not hold FDA approval, and the agency does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before marketing. Each brand in full: Hims, Hers, Ro on the hair loss clinics hub.

Plan length

Only Ro prices by term, and the ladder matters: oral finasteride is $20 a month quarterly and $16 on twelve months. Ro says it ships quarterly partly because “it allows us to lower your final cost”. Hims and Hers quote monthly figures; the Hims terms mention a “multi-month” rate but publish none for hair.

Prescription or over the counter

Topical minoxidil needs no prescription and is an FDA-approved over-the-counter drug, and it is the cheapest line on all three lists. Prescription tiers usually start higher, at $22 at Hims and $29 at Hers.

One ingredient or several

Single-ingredient products are the cheaper line on every list. Hims: finasteride $22 against $35 a combination and $60 for the bundle. Ro: finasteride $16 to $20 against $43 to $50 for the Mane Spray. Hers: oral minoxidil $29 against $35. The regulatory category changes too. Ro says “Only oral finasteride (1 mg) is FDA-approved for male pattern baldness”, and that oral minoxidil is not FDA approved for hair loss though a provider may prescribe it at their discretion. Compounded products are a third category: not approved drugs, and not reviewed by the agency for safety, effectiveness or quality before marketing. Shipping

Free on prescription orders at all three: Hims lists “Free shipping, if prescribed”, Hers says treatment “will ship to you for free, if prescribed”, Ro lists “Free shipping in discreet packaging”. None publishes the cost on an over-the-counter-only order. Two Hers items carry limits: the 5% foam ships by ground only, not to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam or military addresses, and the 2% solution carries shipping restrictions to military addresses for its alcohol content.

Consultation fees

None of the three publishes one for hair loss. Hims markets a “Free consultation” and “Free, unlimited access to licensed providers”. Ro says only that “The total price of your treatment plan may vary based on number of doses and shipping frequency.” Hers shows no charge on the pages we read, and no statement that it is free.

Hims spells it out in its Promotion Offer Terms: “For monthly subscription plans, the Discount applies to the first month only.” and “Standard monthly or multi-month subscription rate resumes after the promotional subscription period.” It covers “new subscriptions only” and is “not valid for refills or renewals of existing subscriptions.” Hims does not publish the standard rate per product, so the step to month two is not on the page.

Hers puts an asterisk on every landing-page figure, and the footnote behind it was not in the page text we read. Where a product page shows its workings the pattern is visible: the 2% minoxidil page shows $45 each one-time against $30 each on a subscription. The Hers terms add that the company “will provide you advance notice of any price changes.”

Ro is the outlier, in the buyer’s favor: one figure per product per plan length and no separate introductory price, so the number you read repeats.

To find the recurring amount before you pay: read the checkout summary for a renewal amount and date, not just today’s charge; read the promotion terms page rather than the product page, since that is where the “first month only” language lives; and if no recurring figure appears, ask what month two costs before you enter card details.

Everything below is our calculation, from the brands’ own published figures, assuming each figure holds for twelve months.

Ro, where the figures are standing prices

• Topical minoxidil, twelve months: 12 × $13 = $156 a year. Quarterly: 12 × $16 = $192.
• Oral finasteride, twelve months: 12 × $16 = $192. Quarterly: 12 × $20 = $240. The ends of the ladder differ by $240 − $192 = $48 a year, or 20% ($48 ÷ $240).
• Oral minoxidil, twelve months: 12 × $24 = $288. Quarterly: 12 × $30 = $360, a $72 difference.
• Ro Mane Spray, six months: 12 × $43 = $516. Quarterly: 12 × $50 = $600.

Hims, at the published starting prices

• Minoxidil serum: 12 × $15 = $180 a year.
• Oral finasteride: 12 × $22 = $264.
• A Hair Hybrid: 12 × $35 = $420; with ketoconazole and biotin, 12 × $39 = $468.
• Hair Power Pack: 12 × $60 = $720.

Those four are floors, not forecasts: the Hims terms say the standard rate resumes after month one, and that rate is not published per product.

Hers, where two pages give two numbers

Three Hers products are priced differently on the landing page and their own product page, so both sets are below.

• Topical minoxidil 2%: landing page, 12 × $12.67 = $152.04 a year; product page, two bottles every two months at $30 each, 6 × (2 × $30) = $360.
• Biotin gummies: landing page, 12 × $13.50 = $162; product page, $32 every two months, 6 × $32 = $192.
• Thickening shampoo and conditioner: landing page, 12 × $25 = $300. The page at that address shows a differently named set at $32 each with no refill interval, so we give no yearly figure for it.
• Oral minoxidil, the one prescription figure matching on both pages: 12 × $29 = $348.
• A prescription combination at $35: 12 × $35 = $420.

The lowest twelve-month total for oral finasteride here is Ro’s $192 against Hims’ $264 — not like for like, since Ro’s is a standing price on a twelve-month commitment and Hims’ a starting price its terms say rises after month one.

Every plan here renews on its own: you give a card once, the brand charges it again at the interval set at checkout, and that repeats until you cancel. The Hims and Hers terms both say your payment device “will be automatically charged at regular intervals”; Ro’s wording is nearly identical.

The deadlines each brand publishes

• Hims: cancel “at least two (2) days before the applicable renewal processing date”, in the app, under “My Subscriptions”, or on 1-800-368-0038. Canceling does not stop an order already processing or shipped.
• Hers: the same two-day rule, in the app or under “My Subscriptions”.
• Ro: no fixed number of days. You may cancel “before the cancelation cutoff date as indicated to you at the time you purchase”. A clause for Ro’s weight-loss line names 48 hours, but not for hair loss, so read the cutoff at your own checkout.

Hims and Hers both add that a first renewal “may be charged early” and later ones “may be charged and/or shipped up to two (2) days early”, so note the date early. On refunds, both use the same sentence — “We do not offer refunds for partially used subscription periods” — with case-by-case exceptions. Ro treats fees as not refundable except where a refund policy says otherwise, refunding automatically if you are found unsuitable or your request is rejected or expires.

What the law requires of the seller

The Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA) covers any online subscription. A seller must provide text that “clearly and conspicuously discloses all material terms of the transaction before obtaining the consumer’s billing information”, obtain “express informed consent before charging the consumer’s credit card, debit card, bank account, or other financial account”, and provide “simple mechanisms for a consumer to stop recurring charges”.

The FTC’s own Negative Option Rule is in flux: the Eighth Circuit vacated its 2024 click-to-cancel amendments, and the FTC’s final rule of February 12, 2026 “revises the Negative Option Rule to restore it in the form it existed before the 2024 Rule became effective”. On March 11, 2026 it opened a comment period on what should replace them. So the pre-2024 rule applies today; ROSCA was never vacated.

• Take the over-the-counter route if it suits you. Topical minoxidil needs no prescription, is an FDA-approved over-the-counter drug, and is the cheapest line on all three lists: $15 or $19 at Hims, $12.67 at Hers, $13 to $16 at Ro.
• Commit to a longer term where one is offered. On Ro’s ladder, twelve months beats quarterly by $36 a year on topical minoxidil, $48 on oral finasteride and $72 on oral minoxidil (our calculation, from the figures above). That only pays off if you intend to stay: Ro treats fees as not refundable once charged.
• Choose oral finasteride over a combination. Finasteride 1 mg is the one medicine with an FDA-approved indication for this use; its label reads “PROPECIA is indicated for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in MEN ONLY.” Hims sells it at “Starting at $22 per month” and Ro at $16 to $20, below every combination. It is prescription-only and men-only, so fit comes before price.
• Skip the bundle and buy the piece you need. The Hims Hair Power Pack is $60 a month against $22 for finasteride alone; the Hers combinations are $35 against $29 for oral minoxidil.
• HSA and FSA: ask rather than assume. None of the Hims, Hers or Ro hair loss pages in our source list publishes an HSA or FSA statement. That is not a no; it means the answer is not on the page, so ask the brand and your plan administrator and keep the itemized receipt.
